It was my husband, Nick’s, birthday on Wednesday. Ever since he’s seen a crocheted Mr Meeseeks he’s commented occasionally about it. Then resolved to learn to crochet so that he could make himself one as I obviously wasn’t doing it for him. Well I caved. (Though he has been practising crochet!)
It was a really easy pattern but I wouldn’t advise it for a beginner as the pattern writer made a lot of errors. Most of it is mathematical but the arms and legs particularly need some working out.
It’s made using Stylecraft Special DK in cloud blue. Not exactly the right colour but it worked.
It’s been a while since I’ve managed a Finished Object but here is one I’m happy with, this is Chutney and he’ll be heading to my nephew when I next see him. Artemis was really excited when she saw him so I think I’m going to have to make one for her too now!
I’m still working on the Carousel CAL, which has been ongoing since before Artemis was born. Whoops. It’s looking good though and I’m so close to finishing that I just want it done now!
I’m also making a chimpanzee from Happytown for my Nephew. It was his 2nd birthday 3 weeks ago. A few weeks before I’d gone into The Works and they were selling Chimpanzees of Happytown in their 3 for 5 deal, had loads of them on one of their special offer tables. Great! I think, I’ll go back and get 3, one for Nephew, one for Temi to replace the one she’s destroyed and a spare for another birthday or for when Temi inevitably destroys a second copy. I had some money in a card ready to go and went back to buy it and they were all gone. I forgot to give him the card in time for his birthday (it’s still in my car), went into The Works a week after his birthday and they’d found six copies of Chimpanzees of Happytown out back and put them on the shelves. So I decided that I would stick to my original plan of giving him what has to be one of my favourite children’s book and a Chimpanzee named Chutney to go with it. So here is Chutney so far. I’m hoping to finish him by Saturday as I think we’ll be seeing them so I want to hand him over only a month late. Whoops.
My biggest WIP at the moment is my lovely new house though. Mostly my front and back garden at the moment. I’m planning to set up as a childminder by the end of this year, but unfortunately my gardens are a state, so we need those complete before Ofsted set foot into my house to approve my application. We also need to work on the part of the living room that’ll be the playspace, and my desk area which is in the kitchen.
As you can see, the playspace is a bit basic. The desk area is rubbish and flows onto the dining table, the front garden (middle) is currently just mud as my Mum kindly came round and dug out all of the weeds on Saturday whilst I attempted to help between feeding baby and getting her back to sleep. That will be a flower garden. And the back garden (excuse the bedding drying, picture on the right) needs a kango to be completely ripped up and returfed as that is a combo of concrete and astroturf. I hate astroturf. The back garden did have a hideous decking area taking up half of it over the concrete which was also very dangerous and rotten, which is why it’s not there anymore. And masses of rubble, most of which has already been removed but there is still work to be done there.
My wonderful daughter is now coming up to 8 months, she’s fun and has a brilliant little personality developing. She also is starting to look more like her Dad which is interesting. Until the past week I’ve barely had time to knit or crochet (she’s a clingy one). We’re 6 weeks into weaning Artemis, who seems to have a reaction to milk products, which along with my gluten intolerance has made things difficult, but we’re slowly working it out.
We moved into our first house at the end of May (It’s stunning, absolutely wonderful!). My paid maternity leave ended and for the first time in a very long time I am officially unemployed. I am starting to study for four A Levels whilst still learning Spanish. I am preparing my house to become a childminder setting, slightly scary!
We’re now down to 5 rats, Ben was put to sleep in early March, and we had Zhaan put to sleep yesterday, both were well over three and had great lives so we were happy to have had the pleasure of caring for them even though it was so brief in the grand scheme of things.
I still have masses of Debbie Bliss and Stylecraft Special, the only yarn I’ve bought in the past 18 months has been stuff with my birthday or Christmas money and a couple of balls to do the Carousel CAL (which is still getting there).
I haven’t been working on the Carousel CAL the past couple of weeks as I’ve wanted to get this bloody cardigan finished.Currently I’ve finished the back and half of the front, I’m working on the other half at the moment. I’ve used 1 ball of Rialto in total.
I’m going to reweigh all of my yarn in the coming month or two in order to have a better idea of what I have given that my SSDK numbers were so horribly above what I thought they were! So I’m sure that more SSDK will crawl out of the woodwork!
Rialto: 4,084/4095g left (11g this week)
SSDK: 14,937/15,080g left (0g this week)
Happy March! Okay, so not a special month really but hopefully one for getting back on track.
This is the current progress on the Carousel CAL that I’m working on. I’ve not managed much since last time but my 3mo darling daughter seems to believe that naps are for the weak, and that bedtime routine is a game, so I’m not really getting any opportunity to do anything, let alone craft! I’ve managed some crafting time though.
I’m also working on a little cardigan for Temi, I’m not really sure that I like it so much but she needs cardis. I’m using some of the Rialto, though I haven’t managed to weigh that, I’ve used 39g of the Rialto. The cardigan is a knit pattern found in one of the Peter Pan books, called the Bubble Cardigan. I’ve only done the back so far so I’ll wait until I’ve completed a little more of it before posting photos, I like the effect of the stitch but I find it isn’t as effective on white yarn.
Rialto: 4,095/4095g left (39g this week)
SSDK: 14,937/15,080g left (80g this week)
Going by my stash on Rav rather than my original calculations, I have 4095g of Debbie Bliss Rialto left, and 15080g of Stylecraft Special DK left. I think that the Stylecraft includes a mas of waterfall, but still, that’s more than I originally had! Darn.
However, progress is being made, the Carousel CAL now looks like this:
And I’m really just focusing on getting it finished now. I’m most of the way through the red bits of the current section (7/8 done) and will try finish that section this week [if Artemis lets me]
Totals from before the 1st of February:
Rialto: 4,095/4095g left (0g before this week)
SSDK: 15,017/15,080g left (63g before this week)
