A generic update – Happy New Year!

ustemi
Our little family on Christmas morning.

I’ve been pretty busy recently, what with the baby, so I’m not being too hard on myself for not posting! 😉 The baby is doing well, she’s 8 weeks today and is cruising smack bang between the 91st and 95th percentiles, so she’s a big girl. She’s outgrown most of her 0-3mo clothes already! She’s smiling, cooing, playing with us and generally is ensuring that she has us wrapped around her little finger!

So, a generic update. I finished the sage green cabled cardigan which was posted about in this post, which I’ll post about when I’ve blocked it and got photos. I started working on the Carousel CAL by Stylecraft, using SSDK rather than Batik as it’s the SSDK I have in bulk and am trying to get rid of! I am also working on a dress for Artemis, which was supposed to be a Christmas dress but I never finished it in time. I’m almost done now!

oreo

Before the year was out we had to say goodbye to our beautiful Oreo, she had numerous tumours which got so large that they were negatively affecting her quality of life, and so we made the decision to have her put to sleep on Thursday the 29th of December. Kozu has been acting weirdly for a couple of months now so we think that she may have something wrong with her, she certainly isn’t her usual self. The rest of the rats are all fine though, we’ve not introduced the two groups yet but we’re hoping too soon.

The baby is stirring so that is probably my cue, not that I can think of anything else to update with right now anyway! Happy New Year!

WIP Wednesday – 30/11/16

I haven’t really been that active on the crafting side of things the past couple of weeks, however I have been chipping away at a little cardigan when I can!

I have also decided, in my quest to rid myself of all of this yarn, that I will attempt the Carousel CAL, I had all but two balls, so for the greater good I went and purchased Aspen and Clematis on Monday from my local yarn shop (The Wool Cabin in Clacton-on-sea, it’s a lovely little shop and the staff are always helpful and friendly!) and I hope to start this blanket as soon as I’ve finished this cardigan.

The cardigan has the body complete, so I just need to do the sleeves now, which I’ll do in the next few days hopefully. I intend to do the sleeves on DPNs because of my massive hatred of stitching up, so we shall see how that goes.

This weeks Rialto and SSDK totals come to:
Rialto: 4,254g/4382g left (50g this week)
SSDK: 12,217/12,255g left (+200g this week!)

An update!

temi3

Well I feel the need to post an update as I haven’t had a chance to get onto my computer in a good couple of weeks for more than five minutes. On the 13th of November our daughter was born, she’s a little beauty and is utterly wonderful, but a handful! We were in hospital until the Wednesday afternoon and have just spent the last week and a half adjusting to life with a baby!

Her name is Artemis, she was 8lb 13.5oz and born at 00:50 on the 13th of November.

Finished Object: Baby Kimono

This is technically one I finished a while ago, I just hadn’t bothered to sew it up, then it got packed when we moved in June and only surfaced again a few weeks ago. I started it after my birthday so it does count in my 28 before 28 Challenge, it was supposed to be my first completed project! Whoops.

As you can see I messed up the shoulder of it, but it was only something I noticed after finishing the knitting and so I decided to leave it as a design feature 😉

It’s knit in Stylecraft Special DK (as is everything I work on apparently!), in the Bluebell colourway, which is a beautiful colour! I love it, it’s definitely one of my favourite SSDK colours.

Mischief Monday – Chiana

chi

This week I’m writing about my not-so-attractive girl, Chi. Bless her, my breeder originally intended to keep her as a Mummy rat, but due to her small squinty eyes and bumpy tail she decided against it and posted about her to the group of owners to see if anybody would like her. I couldn’t help but take her in, much to Nick’s dismay. I have a soft spot for rats who are a little special.

chiana

Chiana is a blue agouti variety and she is the youngest of my girls. We got her in March this year. I believe that she is also now the biggest (and if she’s not, she’s not far off). She thinks that she is the alpha of the cage and challenges Zhaan on a regular basis, ten minutes later they’re cuddled up together so I’m never too concerned when I hear them squawking at each other, and my goodness do those two bloody squawk. They’re the noisiest rats I’ve ever owned! I have a feeling that Zhaan will give up her title soon, Chi still has some growing to do and can be just as moody!

chiana1

However she’s a sweetie too and is super eager to please. She loves training and currently stands, walks and comes to you on command (well, the latter is when she’s in the right mood but she knows what it means!)

As I said before, I have a soft spot for special rats and she certainly is a special one 🙂

Mischief Monday – RIP Howl (??/12/13 – 21/10/16)

howly.jpg

I missed last weeks Mischief Monday, I wasn’t really feeling great on the Sunday or Monday, late pregnancy insomnia/aches/pains just knocking me out a bit. So I’ll post this now instead to keep to the Monday theme (given that I seem to be failing with WIP Wednesday and FO Friday!)

On Thursday the 20th we woke to our darling, wonderful old boy, Howl, just not being himself. He seemed very ready to move onto the next great adventure but we didn’t want to be hasty, so we gave him some Baytril to see if that perked him up and I spent the morning having a lot of cuddles with him. He did seem to perk up a little in the afternoon so I cancelled the appointment I had made for that evening at the vet, knowing full well that we had a matter of days at most now rather than the weeks we had previously. Unfortunately he lost all of his energy for living by late Thursday evening and so we spent Friday letting him cuddle his cage mates and stealing some last cuddles for ourselves before taking him to the vets on Friday afternoon to be put to sleep.

We’ll miss him, the other boys seem to realise what has gone on and apart from Ben being a little more cuddly than usual they are otherwise their normal selves so we think that they’ve accepted it as well. This last of our Ghibli boys has gone, and one of our first pair. He did so well getting to nearly three years old despite his long list of health problems!

RIP Howly x

Finished Object: Noah Sweater

So I finished my little jumper, I love it! I decided against adding the pocket as I like it the way it is, though I reserve the right to change my mind at a later date 😉

This pattern came from What To Knit When Your Expecting, a lovely little book with lots of lovely little patterns, but one that is riddled with errors, so if you get it, do check the errata before casting on!

Knitting with the Debbie Bliss Rialto DK was wonderful, I’m looking forward to working with it more to be honest and I’ll be treating myself to nicer yarns in future, acrylic works well enough but I never realised just how indulgent knitting with nice yarns is. There’s the satisfaction of the project being complete and then there’s the additional joy of knitting itself, and that is massively amplified by what I call ‘naice’ yarns, yarns that are nicer than bog standard!
