Finished Object: Baby Kimono

This is technically one I finished a while ago, I just hadn’t bothered to sew it up, then it got packed when we moved in June and only surfaced again a few weeks ago. I started it after my birthday so it does count in my 28 before 28 Challenge, it was supposed to be my first completed project! Whoops.

As you can see I messed up the shoulder of it, but it was only something I noticed after finishing the knitting and so I decided to leave it as a design feature 😉

It’s knit in Stylecraft Special DK (as is everything I work on apparently!), in the Bluebell colourway, which is a beautiful colour! I love it, it’s definitely one of my favourite SSDK colours.

Mischief Monday – Chiana

chi

This week I’m writing about my not-so-attractive girl, Chi. Bless her, my breeder originally intended to keep her as a Mummy rat, but due to her small squinty eyes and bumpy tail she decided against it and posted about her to the group of owners to see if anybody would like her. I couldn’t help but take her in, much to Nick’s dismay. I have a soft spot for rats who are a little special.

chiana

Chiana is a blue agouti variety and she is the youngest of my girls. We got her in March this year. I believe that she is also now the biggest (and if she’s not, she’s not far off). She thinks that she is the alpha of the cage and challenges Zhaan on a regular basis, ten minutes later they’re cuddled up together so I’m never too concerned when I hear them squawking at each other, and my goodness do those two bloody squawk. They’re the noisiest rats I’ve ever owned! I have a feeling that Zhaan will give up her title soon, Chi still has some growing to do and can be just as moody!

chiana1

However she’s a sweetie too and is super eager to please. She loves training and currently stands, walks and comes to you on command (well, the latter is when she’s in the right mood but she knows what it means!)

As I said before, I have a soft spot for special rats and she certainly is a special one 🙂

Mischief Monday – RIP Howl (??/12/13 – 21/10/16)

howly.jpg

I missed last weeks Mischief Monday, I wasn’t really feeling great on the Sunday or Monday, late pregnancy insomnia/aches/pains just knocking me out a bit. So I’ll post this now instead to keep to the Monday theme (given that I seem to be failing with WIP Wednesday and FO Friday!)

On Thursday the 20th we woke to our darling, wonderful old boy, Howl, just not being himself. He seemed very ready to move onto the next great adventure but we didn’t want to be hasty, so we gave him some Baytril to see if that perked him up and I spent the morning having a lot of cuddles with him. He did seem to perk up a little in the afternoon so I cancelled the appointment I had made for that evening at the vet, knowing full well that we had a matter of days at most now rather than the weeks we had previously. Unfortunately he lost all of his energy for living by late Thursday evening and so we spent Friday letting him cuddle his cage mates and stealing some last cuddles for ourselves before taking him to the vets on Friday afternoon to be put to sleep.

We’ll miss him, the other boys seem to realise what has gone on and apart from Ben being a little more cuddly than usual they are otherwise their normal selves so we think that they’ve accepted it as well. This last of our Ghibli boys has gone, and one of our first pair. He did so well getting to nearly three years old despite his long list of health problems!

RIP Howly x

Finished Object: Noah Sweater

So I finished my little jumper, I love it! I decided against adding the pocket as I like it the way it is, though I reserve the right to change my mind at a later date 😉

This pattern came from What To Knit When Your Expecting, a lovely little book with lots of lovely little patterns, but one that is riddled with errors, so if you get it, do check the errata before casting on!

Knitting with the Debbie Bliss Rialto DK was wonderful, I’m looking forward to working with it more to be honest and I’ll be treating myself to nicer yarns in future, acrylic works well enough but I never realised just how indulgent knitting with nice yarns is. There’s the satisfaction of the project being complete and then there’s the additional joy of knitting itself, and that is massively amplified by what I call ‘naice’ yarns, yarns that are nicer than bog standard!

WIP Wednesday – 26/10/16

I’m slightly embarrassed by this, once again a WIP Wednesday on a Thursday! I actually had the entire post written out and ready to go yesterday as well! I just needed a photo, which I was going to take on my nice proper camera after I had cleaned out the boys and before my younger sister arrived for dinner, then all hell broke loose! Our two younger boys decided to cause mischief, as rats do. They tend to free-range whilst we clean them out. D’Argo got behind the cage and decided to see the girls, he usually likes to wind them up by sitting where they can see him, but he decided to full on just cling to the back of the cage. So there was me reaching in trying to bat four girls away from the back of their cage and from nipping his hands and feet whilst also trying to stop Oreo from escaping out of the front and poking D’Argo’s fingers in an effort to get him to let go of the cage and jump down, my husband crouching down to try grab him from the back by the rump and Ben running around our crouched positions trying to work out WTF was going on. Having finally managed to dislodge D’Argo, he then decided that he was going to stay underneath the fecking cage whilst his young companion decided to hide. Cue me having to pull everything out from behind the sofa (our dumping ground) to see if he was there. He wasn’t, he was down the side of the sofa instead and only decided to let this be known after I’d emptied the space. Both boys then had a run around through the stuff that was all over our living space because it’s really funny to annoy the rat-parents after already annoying them. My sister turned up during all of this and the photos did not get taken.

The joys of pet rats! Cheeky little sods.

So, I digress, back to WIP Wednesday:

I have a new project on the needles! The jumper is finished and I shall post about that on Friday, and my new project is for me, not baby (though was chosen because of baby really!)

Back in May I asked a yarnie FB group that I’m a member of what pretty yarn I should buy myself as I received some money for my birthday, they suggested that instead of just buying pretty yarn, I should find a project first, and that with a baby on the way, nice cardigans and shawls are great. And so I found three projects that I thought would suit, two cardigans and a shawl. What I’m working on now is the shawl, which is lovely.

It is the Stitch Sampler Shawl, and I’m knitting it in Drops Big Delight, it’s a lovely wool, though I’m concerned about the slight scratchiness of it, which I know is normal but I’m a bit funny about things like that! But I figure that over a cardigan I won’t really feel it on my skin so much so I should be okay.

I also messed it up last night and had to slowly unpick almost an entire row *sobs* I was too busy chatting and not concentrating!

As you can see, I now have instagram as well! Just checking it out for the time being but I may stick with it.

This weeks Rialto and SSDK totals come to:
Rialto: 4,304g/4382g left (54g this week)
SSDK: 12,017/12,255g left (0g This week)

FO Friday – Sherbet Blanket & Hat for Baby

blanket2

blanket

It’s finished! Whoop! Baby has a blanket to come home from the hospital in. It’s actually smaller than I originally intended, but it’s the perfect size for the pram and car seat, so I’m really happy with it. I am hoping to whip up a big granny square or something over the next couple of weeks, but given that I literally have two weeks until my due date I think I’m pushing it slightly.

The colours are Stylecraft Special DK: Pomegranate, Spice, Citron, Spring Green, Cloud Blue, Lavender and Grape.

I’ve also made a hat in the same colour scheme as the blanket, it’s just knit stripes rather than chevrons but it’s still cute, I’d like to attempt a matching cardigan too!

jumper

I have finished the Sherbet Blanket! I will post all about that on Friday though. Currently I am just trying to finish this jumper before starting on something else, though I’m not sure what to work on next! I have a few projects that I have bought the yarn for but haven’t started yet but I will wait and see what I’m feeling after this jumper is finished. I now have a sleeve for it and am just starting on the second sleeve. The problem with knitting is that it doesn’t use up much yarn compared to crochet!
