The second thing that I have finished is a little Flamingo which, as I said, was a quick birthday gift for a little girl in my antenatal group who got given a book by me as well, Flora and the Flamingo, which is a beautifully illustrated story with no words. The pattern has a few errors but it’s sweet and simple to work out if you are familiar with crochet/amigurumi, I’d think an advanced beginner would be fine! The English translation is a PDF so I won’t link to it from here but it can be found on the rav pattern page. All stylecraft special dk again. I have a lot to burn through still.
I’m still working on the Carousel CAL, which has been ongoing since before Artemis was born. Whoops. It’s looking good though and I’m so close to finishing that I just want it done now!
I’m also making a chimpanzee from Happytown for my Nephew. It was his 2nd birthday 3 weeks ago. A few weeks before I’d gone into The Works and they were selling Chimpanzees of Happytown in their 3 for 5 deal, had loads of them on one of their special offer tables. Great! I think, I’ll go back and get 3, one for Nephew, one for Temi to replace the one she’s destroyed and a spare for another birthday or for when Temi inevitably destroys a second copy. I had some money in a card ready to go and went back to buy it and they were all gone. I forgot to give him the card in time for his birthday (it’s still in my car), went into The Works a week after his birthday and they’d found six copies of Chimpanzees of Happytown out back and put them on the shelves. So I decided that I would stick to my original plan of giving him what has to be one of my favourite children’s book and a Chimpanzee named Chutney to go with it. So here is Chutney so far. I’m hoping to finish him by Saturday as I think we’ll be seeing them so I want to hand him over only a month late. Whoops.
My biggest WIP at the moment is my lovely new house though. Mostly my front and back garden at the moment. I’m planning to set up as a childminder by the end of this year, but unfortunately my gardens are a state, so we need those complete before Ofsted set foot into my house to approve my application. We also need to work on the part of the living room that’ll be the playspace, and my desk area which is in the kitchen.
As you can see, the playspace is a bit basic. The desk area is rubbish and flows onto the dining table, the front garden (middle) is currently just mud as my Mum kindly came round and dug out all of the weeds on Saturday whilst I attempted to help between feeding baby and getting her back to sleep. That will be a flower garden. And the back garden (excuse the bedding drying, picture on the right) needs a kango to be completely ripped up and returfed as that is a combo of concrete and astroturf. I hate astroturf. The back garden did have a hideous decking area taking up half of it over the concrete which was also very dangerous and rotten, which is why it’s not there anymore. And masses of rubble, most of which has already been removed but there is still work to be done there.
Going by my stash on Rav rather than my original calculations, I have 4095g of Debbie Bliss Rialto left, and 15080g of Stylecraft Special DK left. I think that the Stylecraft includes a mas of waterfall, but still, that’s more than I originally had! Darn.
However, progress is being made, the Carousel CAL now looks like this:
And I’m really just focusing on getting it finished now. I’m most of the way through the red bits of the current section (7/8 done) and will try finish that section this week [if Artemis lets me]
Totals from before the 1st of February:
Rialto: 4,095/4095g left (0g before this week)
SSDK: 15,017/15,080g left (63g before this week)
It’s finished! Whoop! Baby has a blanket to come home from the hospital in. It’s actually smaller than I originally intended, but it’s the perfect size for the pram and car seat, so I’m really happy with it. I am hoping to whip up a big granny square or something over the next couple of weeks, but given that I literally have two weeks until my due date I think I’m pushing it slightly.
The colours are Stylecraft Special DK: Pomegranate, Spice, Citron, Spring Green, Cloud Blue, Lavender and Grape.
So this week I have my usual two projects on the go still. I’m making some nice progress on the blanket, as you can see! I’m aiming for 5 repeats, which should make it around 90cm long, though I may stop at 4 repeats if it feels big enough, I want this one for the pram and in the car mostly, but it may be slightly too big for the car seat!
And here is the jumper, which has both a front and a back now and part of a sleeve (well, a start on it!) I’m concentrating on the blanket at the moment as I realised that I haven’t actually made one for baby yet and so I’d prefer to have at least one finished by the time that they come along!
This weeks Rialto and SSDK totals come to:
Rialto: 4,374g left (4,382)
SSDK: 12,076g left (12,255)
I actually wrote this out yesterday and intended to post it with photos later on, then had a nice long nap and forgot to take the photos <<blush>> So, here it is, a day late!
Well I still have two projects on the go…. <<whispers>> but I may have added a third.
The third project is actually just a little hat for my Mum’s colleague who is going on maternity leave at the end of this week. I have a load of pink Rialto (or “Fucking Debbie Bliss” as it has been christened in this house!), I’m not the biggest fan of pink to be entirely honest, but I was after some more reddish ones and just buying what was available to see what colour they were! Anyway, I digress, Mum’s colleague is having a little girl and is apparently big on pink, so I thought I’d run my stash down a little and make a little pink hat, maybe some mitts too if I get time.
Obviously I’m still working on my little Sherbet Ripple blanket and the jumper. The blanket has had no progress, I’m all crocheted out at the moment thanks to those ripple blankets and I’m really enjoying being back on the needles again. Though I am planning to crochet myself a relatively large basket soon as a WIP basket, probably out of two or three strands of DK, as I don’t have one and it may be nice to make one.
The jumper now has a front. That’s kind of it really. I’ve made it a centimetre longer to cover a bit more of the back, I’m not sure if it’d be needed but I hate having a cold draft on my back so I wouldn’t want baby to have it! And that’s it for now! Until next WIP Wednesday!
So, this week I am working on a new project and a project I started a week or two ago. I’ve finally finished my tension squares for the Debbie Bliss Rialto DK, my gauge is well off the standard as it usually is! But it has meant that I can now get started on some simple patterns! Very exciting!
My two current projects are a pram/car seat blanket for baby, it’s another ripple blanket though this one will be around 70cm by 90cm, and it’s made in Stylecraft Special DK, in the same colours as the blanket for my youngest charge, the Sherbet Blanket (as mentioned in this post). I’m using up the ball in each colour that didn’t get used for SC’s blanket.
My second WIP is a jumper for baby, this is being made from Debbie Bliss Rialto DK, which is a gorgeous merino wool. I managed to raid Tangled Yarns for a significant amount of it back in February/March time when they were selling it all off half price, my personal bank account still hasn’t fully recovered from that one! I’ve managed to offload 4 balls of it to my Mother-In-Law to make a jumper for baby but apart from that I haven’t had a chance to touch it since then, so I’m enjoying using some!
This jumper is the Noah Sweater from What To Knit When You’re Expecting (Ravelry pattern page link), it’s a nice book but apparently it has a lot of errors, so always check the errata! I have also been told that the patterns knit up small, so I may frog it and recast on the next size up, just in case! I haven’t decided yet. If the weather carries on like this baby may not need a jumper for a while!
