I haven’t been working on the Carousel CAL the past couple of weeks as I’ve wanted to get this bloody cardigan finished.Currently I’ve finished the back and half of the front, I’m working on the other half at the moment. I’ve used 1 ball of Rialto in total.
I’m going to reweigh all of my yarn in the coming month or two in order to have a better idea of what I have given that my SSDK numbers were so horribly above what I thought they were! So I’m sure that more SSDK will crawl out of the woodwork!
Rialto: 4,084/4095g left (11g this week)
SSDK: 14,937/15,080g left (0g this week)
Happy March! Okay, so not a special month really but hopefully one for getting back on track.
This is the current progress on the Carousel CAL that I’m working on. I’ve not managed much since last time but my 3mo darling daughter seems to believe that naps are for the weak, and that bedtime routine is a game, so I’m not really getting any opportunity to do anything, let alone craft! I’ve managed some crafting time though.
I’m also working on a little cardigan for Temi, I’m not really sure that I like it so much but she needs cardis. I’m using some of the Rialto, though I haven’t managed to weigh that, I’ve used 39g of the Rialto. The cardigan is a knit pattern found in one of the Peter Pan books, called the Bubble Cardigan. I’ve only done the back so far so I’ll wait until I’ve completed a little more of it before posting photos, I like the effect of the stitch but I find it isn’t as effective on white yarn.
Rialto: 4,095/4095g left (39g this week)
SSDK: 14,937/15,080g left (80g this week)
It’s finished! Whoop! Baby has a blanket to come home from the hospital in. It’s actually smaller than I originally intended, but it’s the perfect size for the pram and car seat, so I’m really happy with it. I am hoping to whip up a big granny square or something over the next couple of weeks, but given that I literally have two weeks until my due date I think I’m pushing it slightly.
The colours are Stylecraft Special DK: Pomegranate, Spice, Citron, Spring Green, Cloud Blue, Lavender and Grape.
So this week I have my usual two projects on the go still. I’m making some nice progress on the blanket, as you can see! I’m aiming for 5 repeats, which should make it around 90cm long, though I may stop at 4 repeats if it feels big enough, I want this one for the pram and in the car mostly, but it may be slightly too big for the car seat!
And here is the jumper, which has both a front and a back now and part of a sleeve (well, a start on it!) I’m concentrating on the blanket at the moment as I realised that I haven’t actually made one for baby yet and so I’d prefer to have at least one finished by the time that they come along!
This weeks Rialto and SSDK totals come to:
Rialto: 4,374g left (4,382)
SSDK: 12,076g left (12,255)
Not your usual WIP today. My WIP for today has been sorting out my Stylecraft Special DK collection. I think that I managed to find all of it (though knowing me there are a few balls lurking in other places!)
It’s all been organised into under bed storage boxes by rough colour margins (reds, pinks and purples; blues and greens; naturals and white/grey/black; and yellows and oranges), unless it’s being used for a current project. I have 72 balls with the band intact, and 5055g of part-balls. So, in total, I have around 12.25kg of Stylecraft Special DK! I’m actually going to keep a running tally of how much I’m using in order to spur me on I think!
I’ve also tallied up the Debbie Bliss Rialto DK and I have 87 balls + 32g. So that makes 4382g of that too.
I really can’t store any more yarn at the moment, which means using up a lot of this stash. I knew that I had a lot but I’m somewhat surprised with the figures! Obviously I’ve challenged myself to make 28 things by my 28th birthday (May the 20th next year) but I have a feeling that a few of those projects will have to be big yarn-eaters! This isn’t even including the yarn that isn’t SSDK or Rialto, of which there is a bit of that too!
So this weeks totals on the Debbie Bliss Rialto DK and Stylecraft Special DK (which I will update each week from now on!) are:
I’m revisiting this now as it’s a good time for me to do so I think. On Sunday it will be Iranian New Year, I’m half Iranian so it’s an important date for me. I tend to use it as a time to re-evaluate my goals for the year and see how I am doing.
My main goal for this year has been to be more creative and to spend time being creative each day. It doesn’t seem like a big thing but it is for me. Having it in mind has made me do it though, and most days I do spend time with creative endeavours. It’s not always knitting or crochet, quite often it’s at work where we bake or spend a long time drawing and colouring or painting. The perks of the job I think!
So I’m doing alright with my goal for 2016.
Life is busy at the moment, work has calmed down but is still busy. I have a new rat who we got on Tuesday, she’s a cutie. She likes my scrap yarn bag! It’s organza so she can crawl through it without risk of suffocation thankfully! The big girls don’t like her just yet but they will tolerate her when we introduce them properly I’m sure. They always do.
My Spanish is slowly improving, I’m not really doing as well as I’d like so I need to ramp that up ASAP.
I’m crafting quite a bit so that’s all great. I finished a very cute newborn cardigan last week but I need to work out how to block it (acrylic) and add a patch to it before it’s fully finished. The Binary blanket is on hold again as I cannot work out which colours to use, I don’t like the combos I’ve come up with so far so I’m ignoring it until the answer comes to me. Probably not the best approach.
This is my goal for 2016: To spend a little time every single day being creative.
This is inspired by a blogger who has spent each day of 2015 making something. It’s a very inspiring blog for those of us who strive to be a little more creative! I’m also planning to finish 100 things. Be it knit, crochet, hama beads, cross stitch, sewing, colouring-in, models, electronics, etc etc etc. I’m up for trying anything creative!
I don’t think this is really a big goal, I enjoy being creative and really just want to make more time for it. We’ll see though!
