I would like to say that I’ve been busy recently, but I haven’t really been that busy. I’ve been doing bits to get ready for work (I start next week after an 18 month maternity leave!) and the past few days I have felt a bit rough, not properly ill or anything but not right either, very fatigued by 2pm which has been frustrating, but it has meant some lovely snuggles on the sofa with my girl watching Room on the Broom and The Gruffalo and reading lots of books. Paired with the nerves of going back to work and the constant worry that I may cock this up, this has led to me questioning whether my mental health is in top form at the moment; which, as I’m sure those who have experienced depression know, even when you’re feeling good generally, as soon as you hit a slight bump it can make you start to overthink things again. So I’m going to take good care of myself and take it easy and address everything that usually contributes to things starting to build up on me.
Today I felt rubbish when I woke, so I cancelled our plans so that we could have a quiet morning (thankfully as Temi is now napping, she’s been flitting between one and two naps at the moment and I suspect it would have been a disaster later had she napped in the car on the way to and from our playdate at the zoo!). I’m getting on top of the washing pile, tidying up, having coffee en mass, spending some bits of quality time with Artemis and generally making sure that this weekend we can have some quality core-family time instead of catching up on washing, cleaning, doing chores and DIY, seeing extended family, etc, as that is what we’ve spent most of our weekends doing for the past couple of months.
So I haven’t exactly finished anything big recently. Last night and this morning I was beating myself up a bit for not finishing anything, for failing yet another thing on my List of Things to do before I’m 30 (which isn’t going badly but neither is it going well). But then I realised that I did finish something. It’s not a big thing at all but it’s something I’ve wanted to play with for a while and see if I’ll do more.
As I said, it’s not a big thing, but it’s crafty project that I’ve finished this week. I wanted to do this before Artemis was even born, and I didn’t. Finally got around to it now as she’s still chewing everything and I have a mug tree for her to play with which she likes to put rings onto (because why not?!)
So wooden curtain rings + yarn = teether. Works quite nicely actually! Though I’ll get unpainted ones next time as she’s managed to chew some of the paintwork off through the yarn.
