FO Saturday

Not even going to pretend that I got this one out on time, my daughter decided to have a party between 9pm and midnight last night… Toddlers.

My first finished project this year, the cowl to match the hat from a few weeks ago. It dragged on and I’m glad I’ve got it finished!

[Day Late] FO Friday 22/12/17

So I’ve been a bit busy, not with Christmas though. I applied to become a childminder way back in August, there were some issues with my application due to my medical records being “in transit” between GP practices (I moved practice in July/August 2016, my records are clearly lost but obviously they won’t admit that!) but it finally got sorted to an extent that Ofsted accepted my application finally in early December. They told me that I would likely have to wait until after Christmas for my initial inspection which worked for me as Nick had two weeks off so I could get my last bits of paperwork completed then and we could do the little jobs that needed doing. Great! Apart from getting the call two weeks ago to say that they’d be coming on the 13th!

It went really well though, the inspector was brilliant and I got recommended! Which means that I am just waiting on Ofsted to reread my application, ensure it’s all in order and send me my registration certificate! I then had a family looking for childcare visit on Wednesday so we’ve been very busy the past two weeks getting the small things done and all of the paperwork. So much start up paperwork!

The point of this is that I haven’t had as much time to craft as I would like sadly, but I have finished A Thing.

This is Moogly’s Madly In Love hat, a really lovely design that didn’t take too long to crochet up at all. If you plan to make it I would suggest a tension square, my tension was one puff ch2 off and it would have made the standard adult hat waaay too big, so I went for the teen/small adult instead and it was perfect.

This beauty is unfortunately not for me, my antenatal group had a Secret Santa for the Mums (we did one for the children for their birthdays between October and mid-December where I made a gorgeous little Flamingo for the recipient!) But I think that I may have to make one for myself along with the matching cowl. I really hope that she likes it though, she did say hats and scarves as a suggested gift so *fingers crossed*
Very quick to make, very easy and really lovely in some of the Debbie Bliss Rialto DK! (Ultra Marine colourway, gorgeous! It took just over 100g annoying though so you need three balls.)

I had hoped to be posting a hat and cowl pair today but unfortunately my daughter hasn’t been feeling the greatest and so I’ve had significantly less time to craft than I would have liked!

So instead I’m showing you half of the pair.

This beauty is the Oh My Hat pattern by Moogly. It looks really complicated, it’s really not. I was really surprised by how simple it was to make and how effective the stitch was. I would advise watching the video on how to do the stitch and how to bring the yarn up for the colour change (as it runs up the inside) as it makes it really clear, but even if you don’t it’s not exactly complicated.

I did the beanie version which is marginally too big on my head so it slips over my brows occasionally and bunches at the nape of my neck (my tension was spot on, I don’t have a small head I don’t think?!) but I will be wearing it daily this winter despite that. I’m not a fan of slouched hats on me but I think that the slouchie version would look gorgeous too tbh.

I used up some of the ‘Fucking Debbie Bliss’ [as it’s referred to in our house!], Debbie Bliss Rialto in Jade and Cyclamen. I adore green and purple combos and these two work beautifully together, the photo doesn’t do it justice.

It was a really quick hat to make as well, and despite the holey-ness it’s lovely and cosy out in the wind. Below is the obligatory selfie posted to instagram as soon as I sewed in the last end!

Happy March! Okay, so not a special month really but hopefully one for getting back on track.

This is the current progress on the Carousel CAL that I’m working on. I’ve not managed much since last time but my 3mo darling daughter seems to believe that naps are for the weak, and that bedtime routine is a game, so I’m not really getting any opportunity to do anything, let alone craft! I’ve managed some crafting time though.

I’m also working on a little cardigan for Temi, I’m not really sure that I like it so much but she needs cardis. I’m using some of the Rialto, though I haven’t managed to weigh that, I’ve used 39g of the Rialto. The cardigan is a knit pattern found in one of the Peter Pan books, called the Bubble Cardigan. I’ve only done the back so far so I’ll wait until I’ve completed a little more of it before posting photos, I like the effect of the stitch but I find it isn’t as effective on white yarn.

Current Totals:
Rialto: 4,095/4095g left (39g this week)
SSDK: 14,937/15,080g left (80g this week)

I haven’t really been that active on the crafting side of things the past couple of weeks, however I have been chipping away at a little cardigan when I can!

I have also decided, in my quest to rid myself of all of this yarn, that I will attempt the Carousel CAL, I had all but two balls, so for the greater good I went and purchased Aspen and Clematis on Monday from my local yarn shop (The Wool Cabin in Clacton-on-sea, it’s a lovely little shop and the staff are always helpful and friendly!) and I hope to start this blanket as soon as I’ve finished this cardigan.

The cardigan has the body complete, so I just need to do the sleeves now, which I’ll do in the next few days hopefully. I intend to do the sleeves on DPNs because of my massive hatred of stitching up, so we shall see how that goes.

This weeks Rialto and SSDK totals come to:
Rialto: 4,254g/4382g left (50g this week)
SSDK: 12,217/12,255g left (+200g this week!)

So I finished my little jumper, I love it! I decided against adding the pocket as I like it the way it is, though I reserve the right to change my mind at a later date 😉

This pattern came from What To Knit When Your Expecting, a lovely little book with lots of lovely little patterns, but one that is riddled with errors, so if you get it, do check the errata before casting on!

Knitting with the Debbie Bliss Rialto DK was wonderful, I’m looking forward to working with it more to be honest and I’ll be treating myself to nicer yarns in future, acrylic works well enough but I never realised just how indulgent knitting with nice yarns is. There’s the satisfaction of the project being complete and then there’s the additional joy of knitting itself, and that is massively amplified by what I call ‘naice’ yarns, yarns that are nicer than bog standard!

jumper

I have finished the Sherbet Blanket! I will post all about that on Friday though. Currently I am just trying to finish this jumper before starting on something else, though I’m not sure what to work on next! I have a few projects that I have bought the yarn for but haven’t started yet but I will wait and see what I’m feeling after this jumper is finished. I now have a sleeve for it and am just starting on the second sleeve. The problem with knitting is that it doesn’t use up much yarn compared to crochet!

This weeks Rialto and SSDK totals come to:
Rialto: 4,358g/4382g left (16g this week)
SSDK: 12,017/12,255g left (59g this week)
